Geschiedenis

George Wheten was born in New Brunswick and came to Saskatoon in 1907. He was married to Lily and had a son, Waldo, and a daughter, Elsie (Farmer). In Saskatoon, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church, including serving as a deacon.

Wheten worked in the construction industry where he was identified as a contractor. He was involved in the construction both the the University Bridge and the Broadway Bridge, in which latter capacity he was a superintendent under R.J. Arrand. In recognition of his work, he was asked to turn the first sod for the construction of the Idylwyld Freeway Bridge (now the Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge).
