Scope and content
John G. Diefenbaker and party visiting Dmitry Polyansky, first vice-chairman of USSR Council of Ministers. On bottom is written: "During his stay in the USSR, John Diefenbaker, M.P. and ex-Prime Minister of Canada, was received by Vladimir Matskevich, USSR Minister of Agriculture. Also present at the reception in the USSR Ministry of Agriculture were Robert A.D. Ford, Canadian Ambassador to the USSR, and Joel Aldred, a noted Canadian farmer and cattle breeder. Describing Soviet Agriculture and prospects of its development, Vladimir Matskevich touched, among other things, on business contacts existing between the USSR and Canada in the field of agriculture: exchange of seeds, the purchase by the Soviet Union of some cattle breeds in Canada, etc. He also pointed out that the Soviet Union used Canadian experience in reclaiming virgin lands in Siberia and Kazakhstan. The talk lasted about an hour and a half. The picture shows the Canadian guests at a reception in the USSR Ministry of Agriculture. From left to right: John Diefenbaker, Joel Aldred and Vladimir Matskevich."
