Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Louis Delbaere was born in 1943 and attended the University of Manitoba, where he earned a BSc (Honours Chemistry) and a PhD (Chemistry). Dr. Delbaere continued his training as a post-doctoral fellow at Oxford University. He spent 30 years teaching and conducting research at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Delbaere published widely in the field of X-ray crystallography. He was a member of numerous scientific organizations, former president of the American Crystallographic Association, and was elected to the board of the International Union of Crystallography. Dr. Delbaere was a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Structural Biochemistry and a beamline team leader at the Canadian Light Source synchrotron. He received the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal, and was appointed as an Accredited Ambassador of the Palais des Congres in Montreal. Dr. Delbaere died in Saskatoon in 2019. That same year Dr. Delbaere was posthumously awarded an earned Doctor of Science degree by the University of Saskatchewan.
