Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Andrew Kirk obtained his MD at the University of Western Ontario where he also completed his neurology residency after studying internal medicine at the University of Toronto. Post-residency, he did research fellowships in cognitive neurology for three years at the University of Florida and the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Kirk’s research and clinical interests include dementia and multiple sclerosis. He was appointed professor of Neurology at the University of Saskatchewan in 1991. In 2003 Dr. Kirk co-founded a CIHR-funded Rural and Remote Memory Clinic using telehealth technology and has also initiated a multi-disciplinary clinic for persons with Huntington’s disease in Saskatchewan. For six years he served as board member of the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan and is a Past-President of the Canadian Neurological Sciences Federation and Canadian Neurological Society. Dr. Kirk was twice nominated for the University of Saskatchewan Student Union Teaching Excellence Award and has received the Michael Wright Community Leadership Award from the Huntington Society of Canada. In 2012, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his work in neurology.
