Alexander McCaughan was born in North Antrim, Ireland, in 1892. He came to Indian Head in or prior to 1914, joining his cousin John (Jack) Lyons, who had come in 1910 (or earlier). They were related to Rev. Thomas McAfee, the Presbyterian minister, who was also from Antrim, Ireland. Both Alexander and Jack joined the Canadian army in late1914.
