History
The Board of Home Missions, constituted in 1926, was responsible for supervising and administering all the mission work of the United Church in Canada. This encompassed working among Aboriginal People, French Canadians, immigrants, and ethno-cultural communities; maintaining missions in marine, urban, and rural areas; overseeing chaplaincies and student charges; supporting church extension in new communities; running institutions including inner city missions, youth centres, children's homes, All Peoples' Missions, hospitals, and schools; and undertaking other forms of community and social service work. This Board was incorporated into the new Division of Mission in Canada in 1972.
