Bio/Historical Note: Peter Julian Michael Swan, CSB, was born in Folkestone, England. He was first introduced to the Catholic Intellectual tradition when he enrolled in the University of St. Michael's College in Toronto in 1935; he graduated with a BA in 1938. Swan continued his studies in Philosophy and received an MA ('42) and a Ph.D. ('45). He entered the Tweedsmuir Avenue Novitiate in Toronto in 1939 and was professed in August 1940. Swan was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop John R. MacDonald of Peterborough in St. Basil's Church, Toronto. Swan devoted his career to the advancement of Catholic higher education, chiefly through administrative positions in four institutions: Assumption College (later Assumption University); St. Thomas More College, University of Saskatchewan (Principal, 1961-1977); St. Joseph's College in the University of Alberta; and the University of St. Michael's College. Swan died in Toronto in 2018 at age 99.
