Scope and content

First-year engineering student Joal Ollivier shows the Spectrum 2001 audience how his motorized Lego robot vehicles use light and dark sensors to follow a track laid down on the floor out of black tape. Ollivier and his display-mates placed tinfoil at certain endpoints of the tape tract, to serve as switches and cause the trucks to stop, turn around, find the black stripe again, and then go on their way.

Bio/historical note: Appeared in the Jan. 19, 2001 OCN.
