Scope and content
Section at Litlisandur. Lowest (not younger than Lower Pliocene) glacial horizon found so far in Western Iceland. The glacial sediments (reddish) are overlain by massive grey basalt belonging to the magnetic group R3 (3rd reverse group from above). In this area there are 3 reverse and 3 normal magnetic groups above the glacial horizon. As the Pleistocene contains only two groups, at least 4 must be considered as Tertiary. August 7, 1960.
