Scope and content

Dr. Tony Whitworth, U of S Vice-President (Finance & Resources), right, presents a wreath on behalf of the University at Saskatoon's major Remembrance Day ceremony Nov. 11. More than 7,000 people attended the service at Saskatchewan Place, making it one of the largest in Western Canada. Included among the visitors were Premier Roy Romanow and new Saskatoon Mayor Jim Maddin. The ceremony was led by Rev. Paul Donlevy and Col. Larry Wong. At the end of the service Jack Scarfe, a Second World War veteran, unveiled a Canada Remembers memorial sculpture by Manitoba artist David Laliberte. The sculpture depicts two hands emerging from a white cross and releasing a dove. It will be on display at Saskatchewan Place. Receiving the compliments this year were Pat Varga, Provincial President of the Royal Canadian Legion, and Leon Ferguson, from the Nutana Branch Legion.
