Two slightly different photos of Robert W. Shannon, first solicitor, University of Saskatchewan.

Bio/Historical Note: Robert Walker Shannon was born in 1856 at Portglenone County, Antrim, Ireland. He was educated at Grammar School and Queen’s University. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1880 and practiced in Kingston, Ontario, for some years. He was editor of his brother’s newspaper, The Kingston News. He was a member for six years of Kingston City Council. Shannon arrived in Saskatoon in 1904 and was called to the Bar shortly after. In 1906 Shannon went into partnership with Herbert Acheson. Shannon was city solicitor from March 1909 to September 1913 and was a member of several local legal and educational organizations. He became solicitor for the University of Saskatchewan around 1912. Shannon was appointed legislative counsel of the Saskatchewan government on 1 November 1913. He was a lecturer in Law at the University of Saskatchewan.
