Bio/Historical Note: Arthur Bruce Barbour Moore was born in 1906 in Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick. He grew up in The Eastern Townships in Quebec, before attending McGill University (BA 1927). After earning a BD (1930) from United Theological College in Montreal, Moore completed his graduate studies at Oxford. Moore served as a minister in Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Pennsylvania before becoming Principal and Professor of Theology at St. Andrew's College at the University of Saskatchewan from 1946-1950. Rev. Moore's twenty-year tenure as President at Victoria University was marked by his vision as a builder of campus resources and for his involvement in the formation of the Toronto School of Theology. The same year Rev. Moore retired from the University, he was elected Moderator of the United Church of Canada; prior to that he had been co-chair of the commission to form a union between the United and Anglican Churches. In 1976, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. In 1977 Rev. Moore began a three year term as Chancellor of the University of Toronto. While in retirement he continued to be active in educational and religious affairs until his death in 2004 at age 98.
