Head and shoulders image of Dr. R.S. (Ron) Bhatty, Crop Development Centre.
Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Rattan Singh (Ron) Bhatty was born on 14 November 1932 in Panjab, India. He graduated with a BSc in agriculture in 1953 from the Government Agricultural College, Ludhiana, Panjab University. Later Dr. Bhatty studied at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where he obtained a post-graduate diploma (1958), an MSc (1960) and a PhD (1966). On completion of his doctorate he was selected by the National Research Council of Canada for a post-doctorate fellowship at the Prairie Regional Laboratory at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1971 Dr. Bhatty was offered a position of research scientist (assistant professor-research) in the Crop Development Centre (CDC), Department of Crop Science. Dr. Bhatty was promoted to senior research scientist (full professor) in 1981 and on retirement in 1998 was appointed professor emeritus (by selection at that time). During Dr. Bhatty’s tenure at the CDC he was adjunct professor (1982-1998) in the Department of Crop Science and Plant Ecology, associate member (1976-1989) with the Interdisciplinary Food Science Graduate Program, and visiting biochemist (1984) at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Bhatty died on 14 February 2020 in Surrey, British Columbia.
