Head and shoulders image of Dr. Joe Angel, Professor of Biochemistry.
Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Joseph F. Angel grew up and was educated in Jordan. He received a BSc (1963, hons) in Biochemistry from Ain Shams University, Cairo, and an MSc in Food Technology & Nutrition (1965) from the American University of Beirut. He emigrated to Canada in 1966, and earned his PhD (1971) in Nutrition from the University of Toronto. Dr. Angel served as assistant professor of Human Nutrition at the School of Home Economics, University of British Columbia from 1969-1975. Dr. Angel accepted a position as associate professor of Biochemistry at the University of Saskatchewan, and subsequently as professor of Biochemistry in the early 1980s. Dr. Angel served as head of the Department of Biochemistry (1987-1998) and remained at the U of S until his retirement in 2009. He sserved on numerous senior academic committees, including a 2-year term as chair of the University Council. Dr. Angel also developed one of the earliest nutrition courses for medical students which he taught from 1977 until 2009.
