Bio/Historical Note: Dr. David A. Christenson was raised on a farm near Pike Lake, Saskatchewan. He earned a BSA in Animal Sciences in 1958 at the University of Saskatchewan, an MSc in Animal Nutrition at Macdonald Campus at McGill University, and a PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry in 1963. Dr. Christenson was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Cornell University from September 1963 to June 1965. He returned to the U of S in June 1965 to join the Department of Animal and Poultry Science. Dr. Christenson taught basic nutrition at the undergraduate and graduate level, and taught dairy nutrition and management in the colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Christenson published 155 articles in refereed journals, 220 other publications, 220 presentations outside of the U of S. He was department head for 11 years. Dr. Christenson was named professor emeritus of the College of Agriculture and Bioresourses in July 2003. He was awarded the Order of Canada (2002), the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal (2005). the World Congress for Animal Production International Animal Agriculture Award and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012).
