Head and shoulders image of Dr. Carman A. Bliss, professor of Pharmacy.
Bio/Historical Note: In 1949, after serving in the Royal Canadian Army in World War II, Carman Arthur Bliss graduated from the University of Alberta with a BA in Pharmacy and was the Pharmacy Gold Medal recipient. He went on to obtain his MA and PhD degrees in Pharmacy at Purdue University in Indiana. Dr. Bliss held teaching positions at the University of Southern California and the University of Saskatchewan. In 1970 he was appointed dean of Pharmacy at the University of New Mexico where he remained until his retirement in 1986. Dr. Bliss returned to Alberta in 1999. He was visiting Albuquerque in 2005 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the College of Pharmacy, which he helped to build, when he was killed on 22 October in a traffic accident in Albuquerque. Dr. Bliss was 81 years old.
