Name:Patrick Lane. His parents were Albert and Elaine Lane. He had three brothers Dick (deceased), John and Micheal and one sister named Linda. His first marriage was to Mary Hayden. They had three children: Chris, Mark and Kate. He divorced Mary and married Carol Beale. They had two children:Micheal and Richard. He began a relationship with writer Lorna Crozier in the late 1970s. Place of residence:Patrick Lane was born in Nelson, B.C. on March 26, 1939. In his earlier adult years, Lane travelled and worked around many areas of British Columbia. However in relation to this collection, there are five cities in Canada thet were his prominent place of residence:Edmonton, Montreal, Regina, Saskatoon, and Toronto. Occupation, life and activities: From the late 1960s to the present day Patrick Lane's primary occupation has been that of a poet and writer. In 1978 he won the Governor General's Award for poetry for his book POEMS, NEW AND SELECTED (1978). Throughout his career he has won numerous other awards. He published over sixteen books of poetry, one children's book, and he has been featured in several anthologies. Patrick Lane has also been employed as a writer-in-residence in various educational institutions, and libraries across Canada and he has also conducted many writing seminars and workshops.

Fonds consists of personal, professional, and literary papers of Canadian poet and writer, Patrick Lane. While the arrangement differs among the various accessions, in general the records fall into the following series: Correspondence (1941, 1961-1994); Drawings and Sketches (1971-1972, 1977, 1983); Photographs ([194__], 1949, 1951, 1960-1994); Publications By/Featuring Patrick Lane (1966-1994); Publications By/Featuring Others (1967-1991); Audio-Visual Materials (1977-1993, many undated); Writings By Patrick Lane (1963-1994, many undated); Writings By Others (1961, 1971-1994, many undated); Financial Records (1978-1990); Personal Files (1946-1956, 1969-1994); Professional Activities (1977-1994); Professional Associations (1970, 1976-1990); and Red Lane (1962-1964). Of particular note is Lane's extensive correspondence with cultural and educational institutions, colleagues, family and friends, government agencies, media, publishers, and the many writers and poets who sought his advice about their work. Also included are notes, drafts, and manuscripts of the many articles, journals, poems, reviews, short stories, speeches, and radio scripts written by Lane, along with a nearly-complete set of his published works. The fonds also contains sound and video recordings of radio programs, readings, and interviews with Patrick Lane, Lorna Crozier, and other writers, and photographs depicting Lane, Crozier, family, friends, travel subjects, homes, literary events, and scenic shots. Files relating to Lane's professional functions as a writer, editor, and juror include documentation relating to conferences and festivals, workshops, grant applications, radio contracts, appraisals, readings, talks, and writer-in-residence positions. Files pertaining to his work with the League of Canadian Poets and other professional associations with which he was affiliated are also present. Poetry written by Patrick's father, 'Red' Lane, and 'Red''s correspondence with his wife, Elaine, (1962-1964) are also found in this fonds.
