Scope and content

Twenty-two intrepid U of S souls brave a cool, rainy Saturday as they get set to race in the June 26-27 Meewasin Dragon Boat Festival. They were one of 60 teams that had fun raising $500 per team for the Meewasin Valley Authority. The 20 paddlers, one steerperson and one drummer did themselves proud in their three races (see inset), and ended up in 14th place in their division. They plan to do it again next year, when 80 teams are expected. Between drummer Matt Webster, right, and steerperson John Olson, back left, are paddlers, from front, left to right: Melana Soroka (team manager), Susan Bertolo, Kara Exner, Beryl Lepage, Tim Archer, Al Rung, Jim Sharman, Teresa Herd, Sylvia Cholodniuk, Lynn Guina, Les Morrison, Pat Doyle, Ron Marken, Frank Bulk, John Ogresko, Tracey Wray, Cindy Paquette, Dave Muench, Bryan Peppin, and Kathy Gray (team captain).
