The painting is a reconstruction of the above photograph, which was taken in 1900 at the Thunder Hill Colony 70 miles from Yorkton... the Thunder Hill women harnessed themselves to plows (they had no horses at the time) and broke the sod so they could plant the gardens and raise food for their vegetarian families..."
