Bio/Historical Note: Hartford Allan (Hal) Lewis was born in Wolseley, Saskatchewan, on 13 May 1905. Lewis initially enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in 1922, intending to become a dentist; but after two years in the pre-medical course, he transferred to agricultural engineering, convocating in 1928. In 1939 Lewis accepted his first appointment as a sessional lecturer with the Department of Agricultural Engineering. From 1939 until his retirement in 1962, Lewis divided his time between teaching at the University and farming near Gray, Saskatchewan. Lewis died in 1996 at age 91.
