The coach, identified as Perley Banbury, was the son of Edwin A. Banbury, co-founder of Beaver Lumber. He joined the Canadian Field Artillery in 1916. (he most likely enlisted shortly after this photograph was taken). He served on the Western Front and was at the Battle of Vimy Ridge where his brother Lloyd was killed one week after the battle. He survived the war and returned to Wolseley in 1919

He was also one of the first people in Canada to be treated with insulin (developed by Drs. Banting and Best), thereby prolonging his life.

The team’s “uniforms” are a sign of the times, when no womanly flesh was allowed to be seen. Three captains are identified by the ”C” on their blouse. The short skirt on the girl at the front of the line would suggest she was more youthful than her teammates. At that time the game was played outdoors.
