Bio/Historical Note: While a student at the University of Saskatchewan, Edward Russell Hopkins wrote the University Fight Song, played basketball, ran track, directed “lit night,” graduated from Law and was awarded the Rhodes Scholarship for 1932. The Moose Jaw native returned to the U of S from Oxford in 1936 and taught at the College of Law for four years. From 1940-1945 he served in the RCAF as a wing commander. Following the war Hopkins was legal advisor to the Department of External Affairs, law clerk and parliamentary counsel for parliament, and legal advisor to the Senate. Hopkins died in Ottawa in November 1976.
