Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Walter Hader was born in Virden, Manitoba, and spent his early childhood in Elkhorn, Manitoba. His family relocated to Hamilton, Ontario. Dr. Hader graduated with his MD from the University of Ottawa in 1958. After doing his internship he joined the military and spent four years in the RCAF as a flight surgeon. After the war Dr. Hader completed a year of internal medicine in Halifax before being hired for a position in the Department of Rehabilitation in the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1967 he became the first Fellow written and certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation west of Toronto. Dr. Hader was co-creator of the Prairie Division of Multiple Sclerosis, incorporating Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, serving as president from 1969-1980. Dr. Hader first began serving as team physician for the University of Saskatchewan athletic teams in 1964 and has since been enlisted for support in varied sports fields. He has been honoured for distinguished service with the University and was the club physician with two Vanier Cup football champions. Dr. Hader is a member of the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame (1997).
