Typewritten note dated 12 May 1919 from Sir William Osler to Dr. Schofield regarding liquor consumption. Osler states his parents lived until 92 (father) and 101 (mother). Alas, Osler died six months after this letter was written; he was 70 years old.
Bio/Historical Note: Sir William Osler was a Canadian physician and one of the four founding professors of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born at Bond Head, Province of Canada in 1849. Dr. Osler created the first residency program for specialty training of physicians, and he was the first to bring medical students out of the lecture hall for bedside clinical training. Dr. Osler was the Father of Modern Medicine. One of his achievements was the founding of the History of Medicine Society (formally "section"), at the Royal Society of Medicine, London. He died on 29 December 1919 in Oxford, England.
