Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Rui Wang earned his MD from Weifang Medical College, Shandong, People’s Republic of China. He earned his MSc in Pathophysiology in 1994 from the Fourth Military Medical University (now known as Air Force Medical University) in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. In 1990 Dr. Wang completed his PhD in Physiology at the University of Alberta. Dr. Wang was a principal investigator from 1995-2003 at the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory in Maine, and an assistant professor at the Université de Montréal from 1993-1997. He was a professor of Physiology at the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, and leader of both the Cardiovascular Research Group and the Cardiovascular and Respiratory Network. Dr. Wang has served Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario since 2004, first as vice president of research and currently under the title of vice president of Research, Economic Development and Innovation (2021). Dr. Wang's achievements have been recognized with numerous honours and awards, including the HSF McDonald Scholar Award (1994), Canadian Cardiovascular Society Young Investigator Award (1995), Stevenson Visiting Professorship of Canadian Physiology Society (1996), CIHR Investigator award (2000), Fellow of the American Heart Association (2002), Pfizer Senior Scientist Award of Canadian Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (2008), and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2010).
