Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Pan Ming Huang was born on 2 September 1934 in Taiwan, and grew up there. He earned a BSC in Agricultural Chemistry from the National Chung Hsing University, Taichung, China. He moved to Canada in 1961 to attend the University of Manitoba. He moved on to the University of Wisconsin at Madison upon completing his MA in 1962. Dr. Huang received his PhD in Soil Science in 1965 and that same year accepted a position in the Department of Soil Science at the University of Saskatchewan. His research accomplishments, embodied in over 300 refereed publications, of which nine were published in Nature (London). He wrote 2 books, edited 17 books, and successfully trained and inspired PhD and MSc students (more than 60) and postdoctoral fellows (45). Dr. Huang received the Distinguished Researcher Award from the University of Saskatchewan in 1997. He was professor emeritus until his death on 13 September 2009 in Saskatoon.
