Head and shoulders image of Dr. Noel Lowry, neurologist and professor of Pediatrics.
Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Noel John Lowry was born on 23 November 1948 in Dublin, Ireland. He was educated in the humanities by the Jesuits at Belvedere College, Dublin. Dr. Lowry’s mother died when he was 16 and his father when he was 21. He was a poverty-stricken student and worked in factories in England to earn his tuition each summer. Dr. Lowry won several awards, including the gold medal in Pediatrics, which is where his future career would lie. Further training and adventure led him to Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital, where he worked for six years, obtaining his fellowship is Pediatric Neurology. In 1983 Dr. Lowry was offered a position at University Hospital in Saskatoon. It came with the promise of landed immigrant status and later Canadian citizenship. Dr. Lowry worked as the sole pediatric neurologist in Saskatchewan for many years. He obtained his full professorship in Pediatrics. Dr. Lowry acted as the clinical director of the EEG lab and the EMG lab. He was integral in training Pediatric, Neurology and Psychiatry residents, and was the Pediatric Residency Program director for many years. A complex illness forced him to retire in November 2017. Dr. Lowry died on 8 October 2018 in Saskatoon.
