Head and shoulders image of Dr. Jim Orr, Western College of Veterinary Medicine.

Bio/Historical Note: Dr. James (Jim) Orr received his PhD from Glasgow University in 1957 under the supervision of Professor D.H.R. Barton, a Nobel Laureate in chemistry. Dr. Orr joined Memorial University in 1975 as Associate Dean of the Division of Basic Medical Sciences (currently BioMedical Sciences) and professor of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Medicine. He was also appointed to Memorial's Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry. From 1975-1981 Dr. Orr was a member of the Planning and Development Committee for the Health Sciences Centre. He has served as a member of the Medical Research Council of Canada in a number of capacities. Dr. Orr's research is concerned with the geometry and chemistry of the interaction of steroids with enzymes and receptor proteins. Dr. Orr retired in 1995.
