Bio/Historical Note: Sydney Catherine Inskip was born in 1913 in Saskatoon. Her immigrant British parents were founding members of Knox United Church. She attended Buena Vista public school and Nutana Collegiate. She completed a.BA (1933) in English at the University of Saskatchewan; followed by a Certificate in Education (1934). She taught for two years in Harris, Saskatchewan. She completed her BEd (1940) while working at the Provincial Correspondence School in Regina. In 1942 Inskip joined the Registrar's Office at the U of S. Inskip's 32-year career in the College of Medicine began when she was appointed Secretary to the Dean of Medicine in 1944. Dean W.S. Lindsay, Inskip and a few other staff members started up the college. She later became an assistant to the Dean with primary responsibility for student relations. Inskip enjoyed helping students, acting as liaison between students and faculty, and offering long-term continuity. All who knew her remembered her warmth and concern for the students. When she retired in 1976, the students paid tribute to her with the title of Honourary President of the Student Medical Society, an honour previously reserved for College faculty. In 2006 Medicine graduates gave her an Honourary Life Membership in the College of Medicine Alumni Association. After retirement she remained very active in the community by volunteering on numerous boards. She held many executive positions, including President of the Saskatoon branch of the Canadian Federation of University Women, and the Business and Professional Women's Club. She supported such environmental causes as the Meewasin Valley Authority. She kept her own home until age 90 when she became ill. Inskip died in Saskatoon in 2010 at age 98.
