Bio/Historical Note: Daniel Ish, QC, was a professor of law at the University of Saskatchewan and McGill University, and served as dean of law at the U of S from 1982-1988, 1996-1997, and again from 2002-2004 (a total of nine years). He is a member of both the Saskatchewan and Alberta Bars. Ish has taught and written on many areas of law in Canada and abroad, and has been an active arbitrator and mediator. He was a Fulbright Fellow at Stanford University in 1995-1996, and he has done extensive international work, particularly advising on legal reform projects in numerous developing countries. As chief adjudicator of the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat, Ish created a process with integrity that provides a supportive environment for former students of the school system. His efforts have helped bring redress to numerous First Nations individuals and their families. Other activities include: Bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan (1982-1988; 2002-2004); chair, Saskatchewan Legal Education Society Inc. (2003-2006); trustee of the Law Foundation of Saskatchewan (1982-1988; 2002-2004); Treaty Land Entitlement arbitrator for Saskatchewan (1991 to present-2021). Ish is currently a public member (adjudicator) for both the Investment Dealers Association and the Mutual Fund Dealers Association; and chair, Prairie Region Panel of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council. Ish was invested as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2014.
