Construction inside the Canadian Light Source building.
Bio/Historical Note: The Canadian Light Source (CLS) is Canada's national synchrotron light source facility. The CLS has a third-generation 2.9 GeV storage ring, and the building occupies a footprint the size of a football field. It opened in 2004 after a 30-year campaign by the Canadian scientific community to establish a synchrotron radiation facility in Canada. The CLS is the brightest light in Canada; the Synchrotron-based analysis provides unsurpassed information in a wide range of fields. The CLS offers pioneering commercial access, clear intellectual property policies, and a full range of analytical services provided by dedicated scientists. The CLS allows for improved knowledge on substances as varied as soils, mine wastes, catalysts, ores and minerals, biological tissues, functional foods and nutrient supplements, forensic evidence and manufactured materials such as metals, alloys, ceramics and polymers.
