Bio/Historical Note: Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Andrei I. Smolyakov earned an MSc (1983) and PhD (1986) in Physics, both from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. He was a visiting professor with the Commissariat Energie Atomique, Cadarache, France; Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Japan; Aix-Marseille University, Marseille, France; the University of California at San Diego, La Jolla, California; and the Instituto de Fisica del Plasma, Milano, Italy. He was visiting scientist at the University of Saskatchewan in 1992 through the International Exchange Award by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Department of Physics. Dr. Smolyakov was visiting professor from 1994-1995 with the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics, University of Saskatchewan. He was appointed professional research associate (1993-1994), assistant professor (1995-1998), associate professor (1998-2003), and full professor (2003). Dr. Smolyakov is a professional engineer, accredited by the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (2002). He is also a professional physicist, professional designated granted by the Canadian Association of Physicists (2002). Dr. Smolyakov is a professor with the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics (2023).
