Bio/Historical Note: Dr. Allan A. Katzberg was born in 1913 in Orcadia, Saskatchewan. He earned a BA from the University of Manitoba (1942), an MA from Institutum Divi Thomae in Cincinnati, Ohio; and a PhD from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Katzberg was assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma, and taught at the University of Saskatchewan as an associate professor of Physiology, Department of Medicine. He also taught at Western Illinois University. In 1960, while working as a project officer with the U.S. Air Force Aerospace Medical Center, he studied the effects of space environment on human cells on the Discover XVII satellite. Dr. Katzberg was a professor of anatomy at Indiana University Medical and Dental schools, retiring in 1984. He was named professor emeritus. Dr. Katzberg died in 1999 in Carmel, Indiana, at age 86.
