Bio/Historical Note: Ramon John Hnatyshyn, a Ukrainian Canadian, was born in Saskatoon in 1934 to Helen Hnatyshyn and her husband, John, whose political links and friendship with John Diefenbaker, the future prime minister, would provide his son with frequent exposure to high-calibre political debate. He attended Victoria Public School and Nutana Collegiate Institute. He attend the University of Saskatchewan, earning there in 1954 a Bachelor of Arts and, two years later, a Bachelor of Law. Hnatyshyn played clarinet in the playful group College Nine. The University of Saskatchewan publication Green and White report that he was known as “King of the Belly Laugh” by longtime friends and classmates. Hnatyshyn married Gerda Andreasen (B,Sc. Sask.) in 1960. Beginning his legal practice in 1957, Hnatyshyn ran unsuccessfully for the provincial Conservatives in 1964 and taught in the U of S College of Law. Hnatyshyn was elected federally as a Progressive Conservative in 1974, and held a number of posts including government house leader, Minister of Mines, Energy and Resouces, Minister of Justice and Attorney General. He was defeated in 1988. As Governor General of Canada from 1990-1995, Ray and Gerda Hnatyshyn were celebrated for bringing a friendly, approachable energy to the role and Rideau Hall. They founded the Governor General’s Summer Concert Series, reopened a historic skating rink, started the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award and an award for volunteerism in the arts. After leaving the office of Governor General, he returned to practicing law and was chancellor of Carleton University. He died, after a battle with cancer, in Ottawa in 2002 at age 68. Canada Post created a stamp in his honour in 2004, and a statue of him stands by the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon.

This collection contains original works of art, photographs, and documentation relating to classes Ms. Perron took at the University of Saskatchewan, notably fine art classes. Her professors included Bill Epp, Otto Rogers, and Eli Bornstein; her classmates included Bob Christie and Doug Bentham.

Memorabilia from the days when Grace Davis McKinnon, later Mrs. Grace Pine, was a student at the U of S. She earned a B.Sc in 1930 and ME in 1931. The bulk of material pertains to social activities of the University in general and the School of Medicine in particular. The material includes programs, dance cards, autographs, a ceramic skull made by the U of S Ceramics Department, a scrap book and a photograph of Marjorie Slater who later married Stanley Steer.

The majority of this fonds is printed material including periodicals, magazines and reports. The subject matter deals with women's issues, adult education, native issues and international development primarily in Ghana and Saskatchewan.

This fonds contains notes, clippings, articles and correspondence related to the research, writing and publication of the book Saskatchewan Heroes and Rogues. Material is organized by the name of the person profiled. Profiles include: Will James; Joan Bamford Fletcher; Jean Ewen; Gladys Arnold; Morris "Two Gun" Cohen; Richard St. Barbe Baker; Tom Hourie; Norman Falkner; Charlie Palmer; Father Claffey; Emma Woikin; and Kate Rice.

This fonds includes materials relating to the history, faculty and students of the department of economics and political studies; Spafford's work with the Symphony, heritage organizations in Saskatoon, etc; as well as materials relating to her father, Ah King, and her mother, Katie Malinowski (nee Dobrowney).

This fonds contains material related to the Mapletoft family, Fort Pitt, Frenchman's Butte and Onion Lake areas, the First Nations, the Métis, the Northwest Rebellion and the Little Pipestone Ranch and Simmental cattle.

This fonds contains material pertaining to the research and instructional activities of the University's Agricultural Engineering Department. Specifically, this collection provides documentation on the development of agricultural machinery and agricultural practices in the Canadian west.

This fonds contains administrative material from the Department of Classics and the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as several addresses given by Leddy. Additionally, it contains material relating to Leddy's involvement in various organizations, including the Humanities Research Council, Canada Council, Commonwealth Education Conference, World University Service, Canadian University Service Overseas, UNESCO, and Rhodes Scholarships.

This collection contains material on the College of Home Economics Golden Jubilee (1978), and the Canadian Institute of International Affairs, Saskatoon branch (1980-1983).

This fonds contains material documenting both the administrative history of the Saskatoon Women's Calendar Collective (SWCC), and the Collective's research work in Canadian women's history. The administrative records include minutes, financial records, and correspondence; the research data includes newspaper clippings, articles, notes on interviews, and correspondence. Additionally, this fonds contains a substantial number of photographs, including portraits of individual women and documentary images.
