Bio/Historical Note: Alfred Frederick Deverell was born in 1908 in Heather Brae, Alberta. He received both his BA (1939) and his BEd (1946) from the University of Alberta, and went on to do graduate work at Stanford University, receiving his EdD in 1950. He joined the University of Saskatchewan in 1950 as associate professor, and was made full professor in 1964. He retired in June 1974. Deverell died in 1992 in Victoria, British Columbia.

Bio/Historical Note: Alfred J. Pyke was born in 1879. He acquired his MA from the University of Toronto and his PhD from the University of Chicago. Pyke was principal of Saskatoon Collegiate Institute until 1924. He joined the Mathematics Department at the University of Saskatchewan as a professor from 1924 until his retirement in 1944, when he was named professor emeritus.

Bio/Historical Note: Alfred Roddick Byers was born on 25 February 1911 in Ste. Agathe des Monts, Quebec. He received his B.Sc. (1932), MSc. (1933) and his Ph.D (1935) from McGill. Prior to joining the University of Saskatchewan in 1940, Byers was employed as a geological consultant. He was made Full Professor in 1957 and Head of the Department of Geological Sciences in 1965. He also served as acting director of the Institute for Northern Studies in 1964. Byers retired from the University in 1972. Byers died in 1992.

Bio/Historical Note: Alice Stevens was born in Hamiota, Manitoba, and completed her high schooling there. She graduated with a BSc in home economics from the Manitoba Agricultural College at the University of Manitoba. On graduation, she taught home economics in Guelph Collegiate Vocational institute (Ontario) and in Vernon, British Columbia. During World War II Stevens gave up teaching and writing to become home economist and laboratory technician of a food processing plant in Vernon, preparing dehydrated foods for overseas shipment. In August 1947 Stevens joined the Department of Women’s Work of the University of Saskatchewan as assistant director. She became Director of Women's Work in 1949. Stevens died in 1952 after a long illness.
