The Stoney Creek S.D. #332 was started in 1904. Ben Rush, assisted by Fred Ashdown and Elmer Rush built the Stoney Creek school house at NW 29-45-18 W2nd. The first board of trustees for the school included: Ben Rush, George Scott, and John Ashdown. The Secretary-Treasurer was Herbert Mansell. Stoney Creek's first teacher was George Mackey who taught a class of sixteen students the school's opening year. The school house was a central part of the community. Often political meetings, concerts, church services, and social event were held there. In 1912 a barn was added to the school grounds and in 1938 a teacherage was built. An icehouse was in use during the school's early years, but was eventually sold in 1935. Stoney Creek school closed in 1964 and students from the district were bussed to Melfort, Saskatchewan to attend classes.

In July of 1902 the Melfort, Saskatchewan town-site was surveyed. Soon afterward, in April of 1904, the first ratepayers' meeting was held to discuss village affairs. The village grew quickly and in 1907 Melfort was declared a town. In the same year, on July 16th, the first local election was held and the following positions were filled: Mayor- G. B. Johnston, Councilors- Dr. Hatton, J. T. Carney, Wm Armstrong, J. J. Greenwood, and Duff Nesbitt. In 1980 Melfort was declared a city under the mayorship of Arnold Orr. Melfort currently has a population of approximately six-thousand people. The city has three standing council committees: Planning & Development, Legislative & Finance, and Works & Utilities and eight departments: Administration, Finance, Planning, Economic Development, Leisure Services, Protective Services, Public Works, Utilities.

Evelyn Anderson (nee Goodson) was born August 10, 1913. Her parents, William Hayle Goodson and Mary Goodson (nee Bevington), had emmigrated from Nebraska, USA to the Naisberry, Saskatchewan district ca. 1911. As William Goodson had poor health, the family spent time both on the farmstead and in nearby Melfort, Saskatchewan. Evelyn's education was obtained at the Naisberry school, the Melfort Public School, and the Melfort High School. She briefly joined her sister in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, but did not enjoy city life, so returned to Melfort. Evelyn worked at Stewart's Store and Harry Hunter's Bookstore in Melfort during the 1930s. She married Bert Anderson in 1932. Following the marriage, the two moved to a farmstead, but would later move back to the town. The Andersons had five children.

Alfred Craig was born July 6, 1925 to Chester B. and Sophia Craig in Dilke, Saskatchewan. His education was obtained through the Vaughn school, the Melfort Public School, and the Melfort High School. Alfred married Noreen, who was a teacher, on July 24, 1959 in Meota, Saskatchewan. They had three children. He lived and farmed near Melfort, Saskatchewan for most of his life, and worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool from 1978 - ca. 1988.

Mabel Almira Braaten was born March 15, 1907 in Melfort, Saskatchewan to Alfred Braaten and Eda Braaten (nee Haugerud). Mabel took her first years of schooling at Clapton School, then attended high school in Melfort. She entered Normal School at age 17, and earned a first class certificate. Mabel's first position was at a log schoolhouse at Pontrilas. Her teaching career continued for 14 years, taking her to country schools at Pathlow, Hogstrom and Ethelton. For a brief period, Mabel worked in Toronto at the "Inspection and Test" office at Research Enterprises, Ltd. where her brother, Everett, worked as a prominent physicist. However, after two years, Mabel returned to Melfort to teach at Melfort Broadway School, where she would teach grade two for 29 years. Mabel remained active in the Melfort United Church throughout her life and, during her youth, was a member of the young people's group, "The Alerts."

Jesse Finlay, the son of Chris Finlay and Mary Finlay (nee Cunningham), was born and raised in Kelvington, Saskatchewan. He moved to Wadena, Saskatchewan for a better education. Jesse enlisted in the Navy in his youth, which prompted his father to travel to Regina and insist that he be released, as he was underage. Nevertheless, Jesse eventually took basic training in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and took advanced training in Shilo, Manitoba. He volunteered to be a guinea pig at a "Gas Experiment" in Suffield, Alberta, and ended up being badly burned. After his recovery, Jesse went to Shilo, and entered the paratroops in 1942. He went over to Europe on the "Ile de France" - a journey that would take 13 days. His return trip in 1945 on the "Queen Elizabeth" took only three. Jesse's paratrooping career included approx. 4 jumps, and left him with several muscle injuries.
